This is a Luxury shelter for (stray) cats. This insulated cat house has 2 compartments and can accommodate 3 to 4 cats. One space for lounging and a fully insulated sleeping area. The access area has 2 entrances/exits, providing an escape route. Additionally, this room also features a viewing hole for your kitty. The interior rooms are finished with laminated wood, which is waterproof. You can easily clean these spaces from the inside. The roof can be opened, and even the interior wall can be temporarily removed. The roof is also finished with EPDM, and during rainy weather, water flows off the sloped roof. There are grooves on the lower shelf of the roof, allowing water to drain outside (not yet visible in these photos).

All municipalities in Flanders will eventually receive shelters for stray cats to reduce nuisance. This initiative is part of a broader effort to address the issue of stray cats, as at least 2,000 cats are euthanized each year. E-woodproducts is responsible for the production of these shelters and their logistical distribution to Flemish municipalities.
Every year, the cabinet of Flemish Minister of Animal Welfare Ben Weyts (N-VA) surveys recognized animal shelters about the number of cats that were (temporarily) taken in. From the responses of 75 shelters, it was found that the total in 2017 was 12,153 cats, of which 913 were euthanized. A year later, in 2018, there were 14,197 cats, of which at least 2,000 were euthanized. Not all recognized shelters shared their figures with the cabinet, but available data shows a slight increase in the number of cats that were found, seized, or surrendered. In both 2017 and 2018, it was evident that about 7.5% of all cats were euthanized.
The goal of the stray cat policy is to limit euthanasia
The measures are varied. For instance, there is a sterilization requirement for all newborn kittens (previously this was only mandatory when a cat was sold), a central cat database exists, and Minister Weyts also requested that municipalities develop a local "stray cat plan." It now appears that about 9 out of 10 Flemish municipalities have effectively done so.
Almost all municipalities, for example, established a reporting point so that residents can report stray cats. Data from the cabinet also showed that 95% of the municipalities that participated in the survey sterilized captured stray cats before they were returned. To provide shelter for these animals, the shelters are being distributed across Flanders starting today. Information boards are also placed with the shelters, providing information about the reporting point and the sterilization requirement.
